Homesmarts® has been developed for you by Beacon Pathway Ltd in cooperation with URS New Zealand, Consumers' Institute, Chrometoaster, and West Egg Ltd.
Beacon Pathway Ltd is a research consortium that's working to find affordable, attractive ways to make New Zealand homes more sustainable. Its vision is:
Creating homes and neighbourhoods
that work well into the future
and don't cost the Earth.
Homesmarts is modelled on features used in Beacon Pathway Ltd's NOW Home® demonstration homes, which are being developed throughout New Zealand as part of an extended research project on how to create affordable homes that are warmer, healthier, cheaper to run and kinder to the environment.
The NOW Home® projects address design and building of new homes and renovations, and improvements to existing homes. Designed to meet future needs, NOW Home® projects use materials and technology readily available now. Once built or retrofitted, the homes are tenanted or occupied by their owners, and the effectiveness of the design features is monitored across a range of criteria.
Homesmarts is an integral element of the site www.smarterhomes.org.nz, which provides a comprehensive consumer's guide to sustainable homes.
